With the 2025 edition of Mondomusica, we welcomed more international visitors, in particular those from Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, Australia, Brazil and even Argentina. Mondomusica, like the city of Cremona itself, can indeed lay claim to being an absolute must-see. It was a genuine success for Italian, European and international violin making, and the many musicians who came to try out the instruments on show were right to attend.
Luthiers were particularly enthusiastic about our new bow parts, especially after the most recent changes we made. The quality of our finest wood won over even the most discerning luthiers, who wasted no time in testing the acoustic properties of the wood to narrow down their choices. After all, the sound quality of a string instrument can be improved according to the bridge you choose, with the bridge ‘playing’ its own music based on the way the musician uses their bow. And sometimes, without even knowing it, the musicians themselves will adjust their playing style to suit the bridge that is fitted.
We also had a lovely surprise visit from Jean-Pierre Brembilla and his wife, Monique. They were highly symbolic visitors for us, who came all the way from Gimont in France, which is home to our bridges. Jean-Pierre worked in our workshop for over 10 years. He assembled adjustable double basses and was gifted in sanding and finishing our bridges. Their visit is a testament to the lasting ties that exist with Despiau. These ties are so deep-rooted that he came to Italy to see the fruit of his work, as well as reconnect with his family roots in Bergamo. It truly was a full-circle moment for us all.
